It seems every month of this fantastic 60th anniversary year is full of great happenings at Nevins! Learn all about it by subscribing and reading the Nevins Newsletter! It has been a great summer so far for our staff and individuals we serve! Elevation Church wrapped up the final week of July for their Love Week here at Nevins, and I know that August will bring a lot of smiles and joy to individuals we serve. Nevins has had a lot of staff and individuals come and go throughout the years. In the last 3 years Nevins has had 2 staff retire with over 25 years of service, and 1 with just over 20 years. However, Nevins individuals retire as well. Our July Newsletter is ready for prime time! Check out all the great happenings at Nevins Inc. As we begin our new fiscal year, it’s been rewarding to know that we have accomplished what we had set goals for this past year. Nevins has hired a Director of Development and Strategic Partnership position, we have upgraded our fleet of vans by adding an additional van to our fleet, Administration and Technology upgrades, EHR (Electronic Healthcare Record keeping software), over 65% job placement for our disabled population through supported employment services and Nevins Inc. has had over 33% growth with delivering quality services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We continue to receive encouraging feedback from family members, friends and longtime supporters of Nevins, and I am excited to look ahead in our new fiscal year. The 14th Annual Festa Italiana was held on May 19th, and we could not have asked for a better day! We had a great turn out and Nevins certainly shined bright with its musical performances, live art demonstration and of course our wonderful participants. We owe a BIG THANK YOU to Dr. Vincent and Sandra Voci, the St Anthony Foundation, the entire Festa committee, and all the volunteers (chef, performers, etc) and all the wonderful guests who made our mission their cause! Also, thank you to Pam Glass and our Vice Chair Tom Gottcent for taking the lead on the silent auction. Tom and Pam coordinated and organized one of the best silent auctions the Festa has had with over 95 items donated. A summer day camp for individuals with developmental disabilities (ages 15+) that provides day support with community activities and vocational experience on the Nevins Center Campus, we have been Creating Opportunities since 1959! June 17th through August 23th. We offer a variety of enrichment experiences like arts, crafts, cooking and field trips. With enphasis on fun while learning! We have a packed issue of the newsletter for you here from Spring Fling to Special Olympics and preparing for the Festa on May 19th! We have had a great start to spring and we continue to celebrate our 60th Anniversary throughout 2019. On April 13th our Annual Spring Fling was held, and what a turnout we had! Thank you to all the staff, families, board members, and group homes that came by to celebrate and enjoy great food prepared by our Nevins Board of Directors, and entertainment by A.B. Congratulations to Deon Chism for receiving the 2018 Melanie Lester Employee of the Year. Deon has been with Nevins for 4 years, and started out as a job coach, and had moved over to Atrium working with our individuals in the employment group as a model worker. Our Newsletter is packed this month here is a bit of the Executive Directors letter (Adam.) “In March we celebrated Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and Nevins had the opportunity to celebrate and showcase our commitment to providing quality services and educating others on the opportunities that Nevins has to offer. Nevins attended the Metro School, Harding High School and East Mecklenburg High School Transitional Fairs. These three events offered options for families and the support they need for post-secondary success for students needing ongoing services. We look forward to connecting with the families again in the future! Our 3rd Annual Chili-Cook off was a success!
